About Accounting, MPhil - at University of Exeter Business School

The Accounting Department has a long history of high-quality research work, which currently focuses on financial reporting, management accounting, accounting history, earnings dynamics and management, market-based accounting, auditing and corporate governance, covering both theoretical and empirical approaches to the discipline. At Exeter, international aspects of respective topics feature highly, which has attracted a number of overseas academic visitors. Topics currently being researched include the relationship between expected earnings and book value in determining equity value, assessment of disclosure levels in a number of countries, financial reporting in Japan, corporate governance in Malaysia, determinants of audit fee premiums, audit committees, pension accounting, university tuition fee charging effects, the relationship between implicit and explicit taxes and market structure, accountants and Empire, and returns on investment.

Applicants should consider how their proposed research matches the interests of members of the department so that appropriate and effective supervision can be provided.
