Course summary

Overview
At UWL we blend both elements from a fashion and textile industry to develop career ready individuals, focuses on developing innovative independent thinkers within print, knit and fashion.

This course will help you develop your own design voice, as well as to build confidence in the presentation of ideas visually and verbally. We have strong links with industry, such as high profile guest speakers. Combined with the high-level technical skills and knowledge you will acquire, you will be equipped to compete in a global economy.

You will be guided through a range of workshops and lectures that build strong design principles; developing skills in:

  • screen and digital print
  • domestic and industrial knit/sewing machine skills
  • pattern cutting
  • fashion design
  • fashion illustration
  • material awareness

  • contextual and visual research.

Woven throughout the degree are approaches to developing an understanding of the impact the fashion and textiles industry has on the planet and its inhabitance, helping you on your way to becoming a future-relevant designer.

As well as supporting an exciting career within the fashion and textile industry, the course prepares you for further postgraduate studies such as a Masters degree.

Funding

Help with funding is available to a range of students, whether you are studying full or part-time, in your home country or overseas.

You may be eligible for a student loan to cover the cost of tuition fees or a maintenance loan to support you during your studies. Additional funding is available to some types of students, such as those with dependants, disabled students and more. Find out more about applying for student loans and other funding options.

We also offer a range of scholarships and bursaries to help you. Current scholarships include:

  • Full Time Undergraduate Bursary: a £3,000 award for new undergraduate students.
  • Path to Success Scholarship: a £4,000 award for students on a four-year degree course with a foundation year.

Please note fees are paid for each year of study unless otherwise stated. You will be required to re-enrol and pay fees at the beginning of each academic year. Fees may be subject to government regulations on fee increases. Future inflationary increases will be applied to each subsequent year of the course, subject to government regulations on fee increases.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

We welcome applications from students holding a BTEC National Diploma in a fashion, textiles, art or design-related subject, or a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design.

112 UCAS points at Level 3, which would normally include at least two subject areas, including an art and design related subject, plus GCSE English and Maths at C grade or above.

We welcome applications from mature students, or students with relevant work experience. If you have no formal qualifications we will consider you on an individual basis.

International students need to meet our English language requirement at either IELTS at 5.5 or above. Contact our International Office to find out what international qualifications you need to get onto a course www.uwl.ac.uk/international
