Course summary

Overview
Business Economics is a vibrant area of study, as it focuses on issues that impact on everyday life. This course will give you a sense of how important it is for businesses to understand 'the economy'  in order to increase their chances of success. No prior knowledge of business or economics is needed to enrol on this course.

The course will assume that you have an interest in both business and economics, but no formal knowledge of either. It is designed to give you a solid basis in business and economics concepts, and to equip you with skills that will give you an edge in the Business Economics sector. You will learn about business and economics in a globalised world, study contemporary issues affecting these fields and develop the professional skills needed to embark on a rewarding career.

Funding

Help with funding is available to a range of students, whether you are studying full or part-time, in your home country or overseas.

You may be eligible for a student loan to cover the cost of tuition fees or a maintenance loan to support you during your studies.   • Full Time Undergraduate Bursary: a £3,000 award for new undergraduate students.
  • Path to Success Scholarship: a £4,000 award for students on a four-year degree course with a foundation year.

Please note fees are paid for each year of study unless otherwise stated. You will be required to re-enrol and pay fees at the beginning of each academic year. Fees may be subject to government regulations on fee increases. Entry requirements

112 UCAS points (of which at least 160 must be from a relevant area, for example: humanities, social science and literature/languages or childhood/social care professionalisms).

We accept the following qualifications:

  • BTEC Level 3 Qualifications or a combination of A Level and Level 3 BTEC qualifications, or Level 3 BTEC and Access courses in Social Care
  • All Level 3 qualifications, including the Access to HE Diploma with a minimum of 21 Level 3 credits at Merit
  • Equivalent international qualifications
  • If your combined qualifications fall short of the required UCAS points (as may be the case for applicants returning to studying as mature students) your application may still be considered if there is strong evidence of experience working in an educational setting. In this case you will be invited to interview and required to undertake a short written paper in order to assess your suitability for the academic demands of the course. An offer of a place may subsequently be made
  • We also consider applications from those who have gained relevant skills through a wide range of vocational qualifications or responsible experience. Similarly, you will be invited to interview and required to undertake a short written paper in order to assess your suitability for the academic demands of the course. An offer of a place may subsequently be made.

Note:
You must hold GCSEs in English and Mathematics at Grade 'C' and above. If you intend to apply for PGCE to attain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) GCSE Science at Grade 'C' or above is strongly recommended.

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)
We will also consider students for direct entry into Level 5 (Year 2) and Level 6 (Year 3) providing they meet our criteria for APL.

International students need to meet our English language requirement at either IELTS at 6.0 or above and a minimum of 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).
