If you want tobecome a teacher in further education, our Professional Certificate inEducation will give you the skills you need for teaching and classroommanagement.
Whether you want acareer teaching in colleges, adult education centres, art colleges, health careor community organisations, this programme will lead to the essentialqualifications required. We also encompass training for public services and awide range of commercial and voluntary organisations.
Our ProfessionalCertificate in Education is available in a full time or distance learning mode.
The full-timeprogramme will see you based in a placement college where you will participatein a range of professional activities.
Subject specialismsWe are currentlyable to offer placements to full-time students in the following subject areas:
In Phase 1, you willbe on placement three days a week to observe and undertake teaching in yoursubject area. For the remaining two days, you will be based at the universitycampus.
In Phase 2, you willattend your placement college for four days a week, and the university for thelast day. In total you will complete a minimum of 100 hours of teachingexperience.
During yourplacement you will be supported and assessed by a work mentor at the placementand a tutor at the university. Meanwhile, yourstudies at the university will focus on pedagogical skills and knowledge. Hereyou will explore the theory that underpins teaching and learning and throughoutyour assignments you will get to specialise in your chosen subject.
Distance learningFor our distance learning mode, we giveyou the opportunity to study in your free time. We provide study guides andextra support via virtual learning, where you can access course material andinteract with tutors and other students. You will also be supported by your ownpersonal tutor.
To be eligible for our distance learning mode you must already be working in a teaching/training environment,and all practice will be done within your current working environment. Inaddition to regular progress meetings, your tutor will carry out three teachingobservations a year at your place of work. We also offer two optional studydays.
AttendanceOur full time Professional Certificate in Education begins in September at our Avery Hill Campus, the distance learning mode has January and September intakes.
