This programme will allow you to combine the study of History and politics, two subjects which have always been very closely related.
You will study history at a World Heritage Site, itself a living legacy of British scientific, maritime and imperial history, as well as a thriving multicultural centre of contemporary Britain. You will explore a wide range of topics, from global events to community history, and from witchcraft to the World Wars.
You will also address questions such as: Why do people vote the way they do? What do words such as 'democracy', 'power', 'freedom', 'rights' and 'liberty' mean? Responses to these questions are covered by the study of international and comparative politics, government, citizenship and political theory and philosophy. In the third year, students also have the opportunity to develop practical and professional skills through a dissertation or work placement.
OutcomesThe aims of this programme are:
Your time at university should be enjoyable and rewarding, and it is important that it is not spoilt by unnecessary financial worries. We recommend that you spend time planning your finances, both before coming to university and while you are here. We can offer advice on living costs and budgeting, as well as on awards, allowances and loans.
