Biology graduates' careers lie within a broad range of areas, such as the agriculture, food, pharmaceutical, health, biotechnology, biomedical, ecology and research sectors.
Why choose the MBiol option? The MBiol is a new programme designed to offer a unique breadth of study. You will experience the subject from a cellular level through to human biology to an environmental, global level. The degree includes many of the same core options that Biomedical Science and Biological Science offer, as well as further modules for you to choose from year two onwards. Study a whole module on cancer therapeutics taught by a leading writer Lauren Pecorino, or neuroscience to explore the the complexities of neuro-degenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease.
The MBiol also offers you similar career paths to these two degrees, but gives an added edge: You are more valuable to an employer as a Master's graduate because of the emphasis on research. You will become a more capable researcher because the programme includes two original research projects in year three and four. It is possible to start the MBiol and graduate after three years with a BSc Hons Biology degree.
This programme is highly practical - it offers a lot of field work and laboratory practical work opportunities. iPads and online interaction during lectures make for an exciting learning experience.
Small classes, big subjectsYou can expect to have small laboratory class sizes and tutor support. Your personal tutor knows your name, and you won't feel like a statistic. You will also benefit from exposure to popular lectures from other programmes such as biomedical science, human nutrition, pharmaceutical science, geography and environmental science, as you choose.
International career developmentThere is an international focus to the MBiol: you can travel to Spain for field trip, hear from speakers with international experience, and benefit from global expertise across four different departments. This includes the Natural Resources Institute (NRI) which specialises on international issues like biofuels, food security, biodiversity, genetic modification and organic crops.
