About Art History, MA - at Richmond, The American International University in London

Richmond鈥檚 MA in Art History is concerned with intercultural issues in the study of art and art history, and with establishing methods for the study of non-Western culture. The Richmond MA includes a special focus on methodologies for intercultural investigation and for the visual representation of identity and difference. Richmond鈥檚 central London location supports the program through its close proximity to some of the world鈥檚 leading museums, galleries and research facilities such as the research library of the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Applications and Admissions
Admission to the MA in Art History normally requires a bachelor degree with a major in Art History or a related area in the arts or humanities. Applicants with other undergraduate majors will be evaluated individually and may be required to take several key undergraduate courses as pre-requisites. Applications must be accompanied by a拢50 non-refundable application fee.

Studying Art History in London
Richmond is ideally located in central London, international center for the visual arts and a dynamic and vibrant capital. At our Kensington campus, we are minutes away from the Victoria and Albert Museum, Serpentine Gallery, National Gallery, British Museum, Tate Britain and Tate Modern.

The campus locale also boasts easy travel to other collections in the nation's capital: Dulwich Picture Gallery, Hayward Gallery, Imperial War Museum, Wallace Collection, Museum of London, National Maritime Museum, Natural History Museum, the Barbican and the Institute for Contemporary Arts.

Excellent resources are available to students in London's art libraries and the National Art Library at the Victoria and Albert Museum, one of the greatest art-research libraries in the world, is a few minutes walk from our Kensington campus. In addition the British Library, the official depository of the United Kingdom and one the largest research institutions globally, offers a wealth of sources for art historical research.

Museums & Galleries
Students will be expected to take full advantage of London's rich resources for the study of art history. Teaching will also make use of the superb museums, galleries, exhibits, and architecture that London has to offer.
