About MSc Marketing, MSc - at Nottingham Trent University (NTU)

Our MSc Marketing degree will help you become a market-ready professional with a global outlook, equipped for a successful international career in marketing, business or management. Created in close consultation with the marketing industry and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), it develops the strengths, abilities and understanding today's marketing employers are looking for.

In your first Semester, you'll explore the fundamental issues and concepts of marketing practice, before learning about consumer buying behaviour and the factors that influence it. You'll also take a holistic view of an organisation and how it attempts to develop marketing strategy in a challenging global environment.

The second semester sees you deepen your understanding of the subject. You'll look at marketing management, how marketing works with the other functions of an organisation, marketing plans, metrics and consumer engagement. You'll be exposed to the very latest thinking in both conventional and digital marketing disciples.

In your final semester you will take on an experiential project, giving you a fantastic opportunity to use the theories and knowledge gained to produce a challenging, meaningful piece of work. This can involve addressing real-world challenges in the workplace, conducting independent research or gaining valuable experience internationally.

As a student of MSc Marketing, you'll automatically become a student member of the CIM, allowing you to access their learning resources and events.

Why choose this Degree?

  • Small group teaching delivered by a team of specialists who have both academic and extensive marketing industry credentials.
  • You will complete a hands-on project; giving you a fantastic opportunity to use the theories and knowledge, you've gained to produce a meaningful piece of work. Projects include Consultancy Experience Project, Internship, Business Research Project and Global Experience Project.
  • Typically, these routes are made up of students from over 25 different countries, which means you will have a truly international learning experience.
  • You will complete a comprehensive development programme, which includes a short residential team-building course, usually held in the Peak District.
  • NTU's teaching and learning is gold-rated by the government's Teaching Excellence Framework - that means you can count on outstanding teaching and learning, an education that's truly focused on the workplace, and fantastic support in and outside of the classroom.

More than a degree

You can enhance your skill-set and gain an extra qualification with the CIM. Upon completing your Marketing degree you will be exempt from one module on either the CIM Level 4 Certificate in Professional Marketing or CIM Level 6 Diploma in Professional Marketing. The qualification will depend on your level of experience.

CIM qualifications are highly sought after by employers, and our own degrees have been carefully created to make sure they give you the same high-calibre skills.

Work experience

You can also add a year's work placement to your studies making your Master's a two-year course (not available for January starters) providing you with an increase competitive edge over your peers.

How you're taught

Chartered Institute of Marketing

The partnership with the CIM means that on successful completion of the MSc Marketing course you have the opportunity to gain an extra qualification, the Level 4 CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing. You'll also have student membership from the CIM and will be exempt from certain modules on either the CIM Level 4 Certificate in Professional Marketing or CIM Level 6 Diploma in Professional Marketing.

Study and support

Teaching and learning methods are centred around interactive workshops which are highly participative in nature and will employ case studies, discussions, business simulations and group activities.

Interactivity is key to our teaching and we are committed to providing courses that adopt teaching methods that are appropriate to the student cohort and the specific modules.

We ensure that support and guidance is in place, especially during the early stages of the course and assessment periods, to help you become comfortable with operating in a student-centred learning environment.

Assessment methods

A range of assessment methods are used across the course, the choice of which reflects the needs and demands of the different types of module. Some modules will assess the ability to work collaboratively in a team and others will assess individual capability. Types of assessment will range from examinations to group presentations including essays, reports, financial analyses, literature reviews and research based projects.

The interactive nature of the taught sessions offers opportunities to gain feedback on your performance before being formally assessed and increasing use is made of eLearning to further support the feedback process.

Induction

All our courses begin with a comprehensive development programme that will help you prepare for your studies and develop key academic and transferable skills. A key feature is a short residential team-building course, normally in the Peak District.

Browse through a selection of photos from our residential weekends.

You will also have opportunities to meet members of the teaching team and other postgraduate students, receive detailed programme information, and gain valuable support and guidance from the library, careers service, international office and Student Support Services.
