Start on your path to helping other people.
A bachelor's degree in counselling (sometimes spelled counseling) and psychotherapy is a good opportunity for you to turn your compassion for the wellbeing of others into a fulfilling career. Usually taking 3-4 years to complete when studied full-time, a counselling and psychotherapy degree will cover topics such as ethical practice, counselling children and young people, and mental health practices.
Studying abroad as an international student is a great way to not only gain a degree from a university of your choice, but also challenge yourself and study alongside students from all over the world. This will develop your future professional network and allow you to make new friends.
Admission Requirements
Admission to a bachelors degree in counselling and psychotherapy usually requires a high school diploma or the equivalent. Some universities might prefer that you have previously studied specific subjects, such as psychology.
For programs taught in English you will need to provide evidence of your language proficiency, unless you are exempt from this requirement. This can be done with IELTS or TOEFL test results, which are accepted by most universities around the world.
Tuition Fees
Tuition fees will vary depending on where you are from and where you choose to study. You might be eligible for financial aid such as a scholarship or grant, which can help with the cost of studying abroad. It is important to do your research before applying for financial assistance.
Careers
Graduates of a counselling and psychotherapy degree will have various options available to them, including pursuing further studies, or looking for a job. Roles can include working as a counsellor, psychotherapist or psychologist. Outside of counselling and psychotherapy, your skills will be desirable in other fields, such as education, marketing, nursing, and social work.
