Are you looking to develop a career in teaching in FE colleges, sixth forms, prisons and adult education settings? This generic Post Graduate Diploma in Education is a nationally recognised Initial Teacher Training course that involves studying entirely at Level 7.
You will learn to study and apply in practice the key principles of teaching, learning and assessment, and curriculum design, action research and critical reflection. The course also considers the economic and political influences that have shaped the landscape of the further education and skills sector. Two days per week (10am-4pm) are spent learning through taught sessions and tutorials, and two days a week are dedicated to your teaching placement, with lesson observations forming a key part of your training. You鈥檒l also have access to online learning resources. You鈥檒l study core modules in Curriculum Design and Planning for Inclusivity, Practice Based Inquiry, Principles of Teaching, Learning and Assessment, and Professional Practice in the FE and Skills Sectors.
Throughout your course you鈥檒l also develop a variety of skills including: strong practical teaching ability, excellent written and verbal communication, organisation, effective problem solving and time management, the ability to work as part of a team and independently, resilience and professionalism as a teacher. Successful completion of the course can lead to a teaching career in a lifelong learning setting including FE colleges, prisons, sixth forms, adult education or work-based setting and in all subject areas. Alternatively, you may choose to apply for Qualified Teacher and Learning Skills (QTLS), which is transferable to a school setting. Some graduates may also progress to Warwick鈥檚 MA in Educational Innovation, taking 90 credits of their PGDE with them.
