Course Overview
The programme provides students with the academic and vocational skills required to secure a highly successful career in tourism and travel management. Throughout the course the students will focus on developing their employability skills and industry knowledge with taught classes supplemented by international field study trips, internships and placements.
The learning will be underpinned by core skills development focusing on management and leadership skills, tourism and travel strategies and organisational understanding as well as the global hospitality and guest service skills which are central to the sector.
Throughout the programme, students will focus on global issues such as developing a detailed understanding of the importance of sustainability and entrepreneurship. This will be linked to the underpinning focus of developing employability skills in order to prepare them for a future career in the International Industry.
Close links with several leading global travel and tourism organisations allows the programme to offer a range of exclusive International Internship Opportunities enabling students to develop skills required by key industry leaders, bringing the learning alive and developing graduates ready to move quickly into management positions.

The programme has been designed through close liaison with leading organisations within the international travel and tourism industry so students can develop their employability skills in preparation for a management career within this sector. It offers international internship opportunities providing practical and vocational experience within the travel and tourism industry. A wide range of leading industry providers in the UK and overseas which are constantly reviewed to provide the best possible student experience.
The supportive approach of the University and teaching team allows early diagnosis of learning needs and support for skill enhancement. This includes respect for specialist needs. There is a learning support team who run regular workshops and tutorials in basic and advanced skill development. The close working relationships between tutors and students and students and their classmates allows a positive, active learning environment.

Assessment
The programme will be assessed through a structured mix of assessments which will include assignments, essays, planning and organising trips, management reports, debates, industry presentations and field study work as well as development records, exams, reviews, DVDs and blogs. Assessments will, wherever possible, develop employability skills as well as aiming to support the development of critical thinking, managing ICT, communication, numeracy, problem solving, interacting in teams, critical appraisal, self-management and leadership.

Additional Costs
Field trips will be available for students, which are optional. Costs for UK trips are no more than £100. For overseas trips costs will be no more than £450.
Students undertaking placements abroad will incur some travel costs. The amount will depend upon location and current state of the UK pound. For students undertaking placements in the USA additional visa costs will apply. For example students undertaking placements in Aspen, Colarado in 2017 will be expected to find £2000.
Students will be expected to pay four weeks prior to field trips taking place. Travel and visa costs for overseas placements, three months before departure.
