About Climate Change and Development, MSc - at University of Reading

Addressing the challenges of global environmental change and economic development.

Climate change has far-reaching economic and social implications. This programme examines the social scientific drivers, and consequences, of climate change and associated policy debates. It focuses on the interface between climate change and development, with particular attention paid to the perspective of ecological economics. Students who follow this programme are expected to have employment opportunities in a wide variety of environmental and developmental settings.

This master's programme:

Introduces and applies the emergent discipline of ecological economics to pressing climate change and energy supply challenges.

Takes a genuinely interdisciplinary approach, drawing on development studies, ecological economics and natural science.

Considers climate change in the context of broader environmental and development debates.

Aims at a comparative understanding of how these issues play out in both developed and developing country contexts.

Critically examines both existing policies and radical alternatives.

Provides great flexibility for individuals to focus on areas of personal interest, through the wide range of optional modules available.

We are a partner of Climate-KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Community), which is Europe鈥檚 largest climate innovation initiative. This partnership provides Reading students with many opportunities for free and significantly discounted Climate-KIC short courses and summer schools.
