Delivered in partnership with the Institute for Contemporary Chinese Studies, this four-year course enables you to study one European language French/German/Spanish/Russian (all post A level entry only), and Mandarin (beginners` level entry only) to final degree level. You will also study contemporary European and Chinese society in an international context, as well as European and Chinese culture. Your third year is spent abroad, split between countries where the European languages studied are spoken and the University`s campus in Ningbo, 100 miles south of Shanghai.

Year One
You begin two structured language courses: one on Mandarin Chinese (that leads you from beginners` stage to final degree level) and another one on the European language of your choice. You are also introduced to modern Europe, China and the culture of the country/ies where the European language you study is spoken.

Year Two
As well as continuing to develop your language skills, you study special topics from a range of options in the fields of Chinese and European literature, history, society and linguistics.

Year Three
Your year abroad in the third year is compulsory, and you will spend half in China and half in a country where your other language is spoken. For China, you will have the opportunity to learn Mandarin and Chinese culture on our own campus in Ningbo. To improve your other language, you will have the choice of studying in one of our many partner universities in Europe or Latin America (depending on the language studied) or work as a teaching assistant in schools, or you may opt for a work placement.

Year Four
