About Fine Art, BA - at University of Nicosia

Aims

  • To enable the students to demonstrate an innovative and professional approach to contemporary Fine Art practices integrating theoretical principles into their practice.
  • To develop an independent and informed high quality arts practice in the students' chosen mediums through specialised workshops, tutorials, lectures and group critiques.
  • To develop a critical approach towards contemporary arts practice and use this to inform their own professional practice through an emphasis on theoretical, historical and cultural fine art contextualisation.
  • To enable students to develop a personalised vision in relation to their practice and to be able to work collaboratively with others, in the current system of contemporary art, which focuses on collaborative and collective practices.

Objectives

  • To provide a wide range of transferable skills that include training in digital media, different fine art mediums, pedagogical awareness, creative research and writing, documentation and visual presentation.
  • To enable the students to graduate ready to pursue a career as independent, highly competitive and resourceful professional fine arts practitioners, and equip them with high quality training to work in arts and culture related work paths.
  • To have a clear view of how contemporary art and culture systems function and demonstrate the ability to use innovative creative skills so as to integrate within the creative market.

Career Prospects

On successful completion of the programme, graduates will be able to pursue a career as contemporary fine art practitioners, can enter into art education at all learning levels, work as art historians or art critics, curators or advisors for cultural services and art centres. In addition, they could work in the film industry, the publishing industry, the theatre, television, as professional photographers, graphic designers, or as coordinators and managers in museums, galleries and arts festivals.
