About Master of Social Sciences in Educational Psychology, MSocSc - at The University of Hong Kong

The Master of Social Sciences in the field of Educational Psychology [MSocSc(Educational Psychology)] programme is designed to provide instruction and training in the theory and practice of educational psychology. Emphasis is placed on both academic studies and related practical experience in the field. Special attention is paid to issues of professional development in Chinese culture and society. The programme covers both theoretical and practical aspects of educational psychology. Courses include psychoeducational assessment and intervention, children with special needs, research methods, applied developmental psychology, curriculum and instruction, motivation and learning, professional ethics and issues in educational psychology, and skills-training seminar. Supervised practical training and an empirical thesis are also included.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for admission to the courses leading to a taught postgraduate qualification, a candidate:

a) shall comply with the General Regulations;

b) shall hold a Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;

c) shall satisfy any other admission requirements which may be prescribed from time to time for the relevant curriculum; and

d) for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the University English language requirement applicable to high degrees as prescribed under General Regulation G2(b).

An application for exemption from the above requirements shall be considered on a case by case basis.
