Study
MSc Industrial Economics is a research-training course which combines the specialist components of theoretical, empirical and policy analysis in the study of industrial organisation. This degree also fits into UEA's Academic and Professional Programme. Students on this course benefit from close collaboration with research conducted by the Centre for Competition Policy, which works at the forefront of policy debates in competition economics at international level, and has senior advisory links with the European Commission, the UK Office of Fair Trade, the UK Competition Commission and the financial and utility regulators.
Structure
Students undertake compulsory modules in applied econometrics, econometric theory and industrial economics. They also have the opportunity to write a dissertation on a topic of choice, supervised by an academic. Assessment will be carried out through combinations of coursework and exams.
Teaching
Teaching is provided by members of academic staff, often in a relatively informal learning environment, and programmes incorporate lectures, seminars, and practical work, including computer lab sessions. Teaching in UEA's School of Economics is informed by cutting edge research and practice; members of academic staff advise the European Commission, the Office of Fair Trading and other institutions, and their day-to-day experience in the running of competition policy gives a practical angle to the academic rigour of their teaching.
Employability
The programme provides a thorough training for a professional career as a competition economist in competition agencies, consultancies and business.
