About Ecology (Part time), GDip - at University of East Anglia (UEA)

Study

The primary focus is in the areas of population ecology and conservation biology, but is sufficiently flexible to enable you to strengthen your knowledge in other areas of ecology. You will also have the opportunity to take one 'free-choice' module in any field of study taught at the University. The complete course profile is available to you on UEA's website.

Structure

Courses are taught through a combination of lectures, seminars and fieldwork. Assessment is in the form of coursework, presentations, projects and examinations. You will be expected to search and select a wide variety of scientific literature and data, use information technology for scientific study of ecological processes and problems, plus demonstrate field-based practical skills.

Teaching

All teaching staff are members of the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Conservation (CEEC), a multi-disciplinary centre with researchers in ecology and conservation from across the University. Many lecturers are internationally recognised researchers in their discipline. UEA's research-led taught modules guarantee that you benefit from learning at the cutting-edge of this discipline.

Employability

This Graduate Diploma is designed to ensure you develop a wide-range of transferable skills, which will apply to any career or further graduate study at MSc or PhD level. Gain skills in communication, information technology, data mining and analysis, fieldwork, collaborative work, critical writing, reasoning and time management. Satisfactory completion of this Graduate Diploma will satisfy the entry requirements for the MSc in Applied Ecology and Conservation.

Entry requirements

Open to students with a good first degree (min 2.1 or equivalent) in any discipline, combined with a strong academic background. Relevant work experience is desirable, but not essential.
