About Coloproctology (Part time), PG Dip, MS - at University of East Anglia (UEA)

Study

Colorectal Surgery is the largest sub-speciality in General Surgery and this course aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of Colorectal Surgeons. The course complements current training systems and prepares students for a future career in a Coloproctologist post.

Structure

The centre of the course is a flexible e-learning hub where all learning and forum discussions take place; where all students' training needs are met, from access to directed reading, to feedback from course tutors resides. This allows students to study in a goal-directed way by organising their own time commitments. The course also includes problem-based learning scenarios, researching literature, ensuring theory and practice are based on strong scientific principles, and a research project with mentoring support, both online and locally.

Teaching

Norwich Medical School at the University of East Anglia have developed the first e-learning higher degree qualification in Coloproctology in the UK. It is a highly evidence-based programme delivered using Problem Based Learning (PBL) and innovative, leading assessment tools, including Script Concordance testing for assessing clinical reasoning and decision-making. As part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, the School has a growing emphasis on inter-professional co-operation in teaching and research.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be: ST 5 or above, speciality doctor/associate specialist (2 years in Colorectal Surgery) or equivalent, registered with the GMC and MRCS or equivalent. All applicants must provide a complete, current CV.
