Hear from a tutor and student about studying Sport & Exercise Science at Liverpool Hope. ?Why choose this subject?
Sport & Exercise Science is underpinned by the core disciplines of physiology, psychology and biomechanics and encompasses everything from elite sports performance to health and clinical populations. At Liverpool Hope University we take an applied and interdisciplinary approach to the study of Sport and Exercise Science. Throughout the three years of study you will study core themes of sport & exercise science, namely: Human Movement & Skill Acquisition
Optimising Sports Performance
Exercise & Health You will therefore learn that in the 'real world' very few problems in sport and exercise science are solved by tackling them from the perspective of a single discipline. To help you learn and develop as a sport & exercise scientists you will benefit from a curriculum that emphasises practical work in the laboratory and in the field.
In the final year of study, our degree does offer the flexibility of focussing on a core discipline of interest: should you wish to specialise as a Sport and Exercise Physiologist, Psychologist or Biomechanist.
Our interdisciplinary curriculum, and emphasis on applied work, reflects the demands of work in the sport and exercise sciences. It is, therefore the ideal preparation for work in key fields in sport and exercise science such as elite sport, clinical exercise science and community health. 98% of students were satisfied with the organisation and management and learning resources, and 93% were satisfied overall with BSc Sport and Exercise Science (National Student Survey 2015).
This Unit is rated second in the North-West and 21st in the UK for their research intensity. (Research Excellence Framework 2014)
Facilities
Due for completion in January 2016, you can look forward to a multi-million pound, state-of-the-art facility for Sport & Exercise Science, incorporating a running track, dedicated research space, new teaching laboratories and adjacent classrooms.
?????This facility will house ultra modern equipment; where you will learn to conduct complete physiological, psychological and biomechanical profiles of human subjects using breath-by-breath expired gas analysis, blood analysis, body composition analysis (via the BodPod), eye-tracking, electromyography and human movement analysis.
?All Sports students also have the opportunity to take part in field trips to Plas Caerdeon, the University's outdoor Education Centre in North Wales.
The Teaching Team
You will be taught by active researchers in the field of Sport & Exercise Science, all of whom regularly publish their work in the scientific literature: literature that you will read as you progress through your degree. Details of staff research profiles can be found by downloading the subject guide at the bottom of this page. However, you can rest assured that you will be taught by staff who not only pride themselves on providing a highly supportive environment for your studies, but who are researching at the cutting edge of their respective fields of expertise and passing on this knowledge directly to you.
Recent research projects include working with Youth Academies at English Premier League football teams and investigating the benefits of flexible 'sit - stand' work stations in office environments. Furthermore, the team are currently providing sports science support to a team of engineers attempting to break the human powered vehicle land-speed record http://ulvteam.co.uk. Subject Guides
