The importance of advanced materials in today’s technology is best exemplified by the highly purified semiconductor crystals that are the basis of the electronic age. Future implementations and applications of materials in electronics and photonics involve such subjects as nano-scale physics, molecular electronics and non-linear optics.

Bachelor's degree in physics, applied physics, materials science, electronics engineering or equivalent. The Bachelor's degree (equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen) shall be from an internationally recognised university.
20 ECTS credits mathematics/applied mathematics and/or application of mathematics, including linear algebra and Fourier transforms.
20 ECTS credits in physics, including modern physics, electromagnetism and thermal physics.
English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (English 6/B). This is normally attested by means of an internationally recognised test.
