Why study BSc (Hons) Midwifery at BU?

You can opt to study at either of our campuses – Bournemouth or Portsmouth.
With a strong emphasis on women-centred care, the course offers an equal balance of theory and practice.
50% of the course will be spent in practice placements, in community, birth centre and hospital settings, where you’ll learn from your interactions with women, families, midwives and other health professionals.
You’ll be introduced to new equipment and skills in our simulation facilities, including a birthing suite, where you can familiarise yourself with techniques prior to going into practice.
Learn from experienced and knowledgeable registered midwives and other healthcare practitioners.
95% of our nursing graduates are either employed or in further study within 15 months of graduating (source DiscoverUni 2023)

Entry requirements

For September 2025 entry: 128 - 144 tariff points to include a minimum of 2 A-levels or equivalent including 32 points in a required subject. BTEC Extended Diploma of DDM in a required subject. T-Levels: Merit (120 UCAS tariff points)

Required subjects for September 2025:

A Level: Applied Human Biology, Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Health & Social Care, Human Biology, Physics, Psychology, Sociology
BTEC: Applied Human Biology, Health & Social Care: Health Sudies Pathway, Sport, Sport & Exercise Science or Applied Science
T-Levels: (Merit) Health or Healthcare Science

International entry requirements:

For September 2025: If English is not your first language, you will need IELTS (Academic) 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in writing and 6.5 in all other components or equivalent.

China: Chinese Senior High School Graduation Certificate (Huikao) average 80%, or Gaokao 76-80%. Grade depends on course
France: Baccalaureate with 13–13.5 overall or 12-12.5 (international option)
Hong Kong: HKDSE Diploma (4,4,4 – 4,4,5 from three subjects). Grade depends on course
India: All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Standard XII) 75-80%
Spain: Titulo de Bachillerato with a score of 7.5 to 8. Grade depends on the course
Turkey: Devlet Lise Diplomasi/Lise Bitirme Diplomasi 4.0/5.0 or 80%

Foundation Year entry requirements for September 2025 entry: 48 - 72 UCAS tariff points.
