This pathway within our Secondary PGCE Physical Education course allows you as a trainee PE teacher to train in an additional EBacc subject (English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Languages) alonside your PGCE.
Our full-time PGCE Secondary course, which has been rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted, spans from the beginning of September to the beginning of July. You'll gain experience in a wide variety of schools including primary and special schools. The programme is structured to ensure that you acquire expertise in core teaching skills and attributes, but also contains enough flexibility to allow you to individualise your training during professional development weeks.
You'll graduate with a PGCE with QTS and 60 Master's Level Credits - these can contribute to a full Master's qualification to further develop your professional and academic expertise.
In order to apply you'll need to have completed, or be in the final year of a UK degree (or an equivalent qualification). You're required to have a good honours degree in Sports Studies, Sports Science or PE.
You'll also need GCSE passes at grade C/4 or above (or recognised equivalents) in English and Mathematics. For some Secondary programmes you are also required to have an A level in the subject.
In addition to the requirements for entry to the Secondary PGCE Physical Education course, trainees on this pathway must also have achieved a standard equivalent to a C grade or above at A level in the relevant EBacc subject. You may also be asked to complete a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course as part of an offer.
All applicants are subject to a number of checks designed to maintain the integrity of the teaching profession. You'll be required to attend an interview, complete Professional Skills Tests and undergo DBS checks. You may also need to enrol on a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course.
