The photography course aims to help you become a multi-skilled, lateral thinking practitioner with a critical and vocational awareness of photography and its role in society. Through the course you will develop your creative skills and your ability to effectively communicate within your chosen context through studying with experienced practitioners.
Practice is at the core of the programme. Experimentation, evaluation and the resolution of ideas and skills together are central to the course. By the end of it you will be able to produce challenging work that uses the medium effectively and be able to identify professional outputs for your work. The course is delivered through a variety of methods that are dependent on the required learning. Critically based lectures and seminars will give you a sound grounding in current thinking about photography and the media and how this impacts on the work of contemporary practitioners in their chosen field. Intensive workshop sessions enable you to attain relevant skills and undertake visual problem solving. Developing your understanding of industry expectations, skill levels and professional behaviour will further underpin the course. Opportunities for work placements and client-based briefs allow you to acquire relevant professional skills and experiences.
This approach is focused throughout on you developing an in-depth understanding of the medium and your chosen field on a number of levels, so you can become a highly independent and flexible practitioner, both creatively and vocationally. The course is designed to help you become an employable graduate with transferable, as well as in-depth subject specific skills.
