Singapore Student Visa Guide

Singapore, renowned for its cleanliness, cutting-edge technology, and multicultural environment, is a popular destination for international students seeking high-quality education. The city-state is home to a selection of universities ranked in the QS World Rankings, displaying its commitment to academic excellence. Beyond academics, Singapore’s combination of diverse cultures, culinary delights, and vibrant city life offers a unique backdrop for students from around the globe.

Singapore Student Visa Process and Fees for International Students

International students wanting to study in Singapore must apply for a Student Pass. The Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) manages this process through the Student’s Pass Online Application & Registration (SOLAR) system.

The journey to obtaining a Student Pass begins with securing an offer from a Singaporean university. Once you have an offer, the educational establishment will register you with the SOLAR system. You will then need to log in to SOLAR to fill in and submit your eForm 16, which requires the following documents:

  • An offer letter from the university in Singapore confirming your admission to a full-time course
  • Evidence of financial ability to cover your tuition fees and living expenses for at least the first year of your stay
  • Proof of having arranged for accommodation in Singapore
  • A valid passport and passport-sized photographs
  • Depending on your country of origin, you may also need to undergo a medical examination

The application fee for a Student Pass is SGD 30, payable at the point of submission of your eForm 16 through SOLAR. Upon approval, you will need to pay an additional SGD 60 to issue the Student Pass.

It is crucial to apply for your Student Pass well in advance of your intended start date, as processing times can vary. Once in Singapore, you may need to make an appointment with ICA to collect your Student Pass.

Singapore Student Visa Work Regulations

Singapore offers limited work opportunities for international students holding a Student Pass. During term time, students are allowed to work up to 16 hours per week. During university holidays, international students are able to work full-time. This enables students to gain practical work experience and manage their living expenses to some extent.

Upon completing your studies, if you wish to continue working in Singapore, you must apply for a work pass through the Ministry of Manpower. The eligibility to transition from a Student Pass to a work pass depends on meeting specific criteria, including securing a job offer with a minimum salary threshold.
